Glenoma Grade School Memorial Monument

Glenoma Grade School

The Glenoma Grade School Memorial Monument has been completed, and maintenance of the grounds has been turned over to the Glenoma Fire Department. A big THANK YOU to all who have donated.

This Glenoma Grade School, constructed in 1932, was closed in 2004, and demolished in 2011. At that time the school district, working with local residents, had the contractor save a pallet of bricks and the main entry way lintel and associated masonry. Former resident David Carnahan then drew up plans to reassemble them in a monument to the School and the teachers and students that used the building.

Much discussion was held as to the location of the monument. The Glenoma Fire District offered a place on their land to erect the monument. Since the fate of the school property was unknown, it was decided to locate the monument on the Fire District land which was right next to Highway 12 and a much more visible location. The monument is nearing completion and should be finished by 2016.
